A digital revolution in hearing technology
Most hearing products that complement hearing aids are based on a very simple principle: the sound is captured by a microphone which is positioned nearer to the sound source than the hearing aid. The sound is then transmitted to a receiver which in turn transmits it on to the hearing aid where it is reconstituted and perceived by the auditory system.
Analogue radio technology: a technology with shortcomings
Most hearing products use analogue transmission. The technology has indeed been refined since the first wireless hearing products were launched in the mid-1970s, but analogue transmission technology still suffers from basic deficiencies, such as hum, signal loss and restricted range.
The biggest advance in wireless hearing technology in 40 years
To solve the problem, Comfort Audio created a completely new digital radio technology. Specially developed for hearing products and to improve the quality of life of those suffering from hearing impairment. The technology is called SecureStream Technology (SST).
SecureStream Technology has several advantages:
- The sound transmitted is crystal clear, without transmission noise or signal loss
- The sound is transmitted without time lag
- Long range
In addition, transmission of the signal is encrypted so it is secured against eavesdropping, which is not the case with analogue transmission.
Unique digital sound processing
Digital technology also creates new possibilities for sound processing. Perceptual Speech Enhancement (PSE) is a completely unique and extremely powerful sound processing technology which enhances meaningful parts of speech and reduces noise, echo and impulse noise. The result is speech reproduction that no other technology on the market can match.
